Goodbye “Forever”

Viva_TT_OnlineLarge_Characters

Their friendship may never end, but their musical is about to.

Although it’s been tweaked quite heavily, the draw toward the Spice Girls themed musical Viva Forever in London hasn’t done as well as hoped and the show is set to close in June.

The announcement came Thursday that it will end after a “disappointing” six-month run at the Picadilly Theater.

Producer Judy Craymer said despite tweaks since the show opened in December, “we just can’t make it work.”

Written by Absolutely Fabulous comedian Jennifer Saunders, the show is a modern-day tale of female friendship and mother-daughter bonds set to songs by the 1990s “Girl Power” icons.

The show seemed to bring negative reviews from the start, with one reporter expressing that the show didn’t have a “original or challenging spark”.

The Spice Girls released a statement thanking the fans for their support of the show.

“Although ‘Viva Forever’ won’t continue in the West End we are thrilled that the thousands of people who came to the show had as much fun as we did”, it read.

Guess it couldn’t spice up popularity.

Spice Memories

EmmaMelCTwitter

Tell me what you want, what you really, really want.

Is that a trip down Memory Lane? Well, too bad; you’re getting it anyway.

Two members of the Spice Girls, Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm and Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton decided to revisit the past this week with an invitation to a costume / birthday party being thrown by comedienne Leigh Francis and threw on some of their old get-ups from their hey day.

“Baby and sporty are back!!!!” Emma tweeted alongside the above photo, showing Sporty in a soccer jersey that she actually wore during her Spice Girls days and Baby rocking her signature pigtails.

And even Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell, who was at the bash, was dumbfounded at just how awesome they looked in their old clothes.

“Confused ?is this u now?!” she asked via her Twitter.

Still able to spice up our lives all of these years later!

A “Scary” Start

14th Annual DesignCare benefiting The HollyRod Foundation - Arrivals

She may have had some huge hits in America, but Melanie Brown’s first day as a judge on America’s Got Talent wasn’t full of the reception she’s used to.

During the first auditions taping in New Orleans, a popular local brass band named Lagniappe hit the stage to do their thing. However, it wasn’t her favorite type of music and she made the harsh mistake of actually expressing her opinion publicly following their audition.

Which led to the crowd booing her and saying she had “no respect” for their city and that she should “go home”.

It hit her pretty hard and she leaned on fellow judge Howie Mandel for support.

No word on if the band eventually made it through, but I’m guessing she won’t make that mistake again.

“America’s Got Talent” Adds Some “Spice” To It’s Line-Up

Sugar Factory American Brasserie Grand Opening - Arrivals

Sounds like a little zig-a-zig-ah is going to be coming our way!

NBC’s hit show, America’s Got Talent has found a replacement for Sharon Osbourne, who left the series at the end of last season (following the firing of her son, Jack from another competition series, Stars Earn Stripes) and it’s another infamous Brit import.

Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown will be joining the judge’s table for the new season alongside Howie Mandel and Howard Stern.

“I’ve known Melanie since she did Dancing with the Stars, and I’ve known her as a performer in The Spice Girls before that,” said NBC president of alternative Paul Telegdy, who was previously at Dancing production company BBC Worldwide America. “To know her is to know a very frank, strong, enduring entertainer. Someone who has a very strong point of view. We needed somebody who was qualified for the job. She’s an amazing singer, dancer and a huge personality. The contestants will get a lot of constructive feedback from her and I can’t wait to see her chemistry with Howard and Howie.”

This isn’t Mel’s first go-round as a judge: she’s also been on the panel of Australia’s version of X-Factor as well as guest hosted on the original British version.

Rumor has it that another judge may also be hired on the series, set to begin it’s fifth season this Summer.

A Spice Girls Story: Viva Forever!

The.Spice.Girls.Story.Viva.Forever

They’re still what I want; what I really, really want.

Over the Christmas holiday in the UK, Brits were able to tune into a special documentary based around the fast times of one of music’s most infamous groups, The Spice Girls.

The hour-long doc, entitled A Spice Girls Story: Viva Forever! also centered around the conception of the musical Viva Forever, based off of the songs the five girls created over their three albums with interviews with the members and musical directors and writers, including Ab Fab‘s amazing Jennifer Saunders.

If you’re still a fan of these girls, you’ve probably heard all of these words before, but it’s nice not only to catch up, but to get a good glimpse of the women today, although there is some weirdness involved (such as Melanie C. admitting that she never wanted to take part in their 2007 reunion tour, as she still had “issues” to deal with and the girls’ posing for pictures following the musical’s premiere — with Posh Spice/Victoria Beckham obviously absent).

Check out the entire documentary after the jump!
