It’s funny how his last name is close to that of a child, because NBA star Jason Kidd is sure acting like one when it comes to apologizing for his DWI arrest earlier in the week.

He pleaded not guilty on the charges and took to his Twitter page to give the sort of apology you know isn’t a real one: when you express remorse without directly taking the fall for your own actions.

“I regret any disruption my accident last weekend may have caused members of the community and want to thank the local authorities … I’d also like to thank my family and friends for their support.”

Could’ve killed someone or yourself? I was a drunken fool? Nope; none of that here.

Kidd’s due back in court September 12th. Let’s see if he can worm his way around that one.

Wow… a celebrity in a car accident. That almost never happens.

Jason Kidd, who recently signed with the New York Knicks, was cuffed and booked after slamming his car into a telephone pole over the weekend. TMZ states that Kidd was picked up around 1:56 a.m. last night and charged with a misdemeanor DWI charge and released on his own recognizance.

Multiple witnesses saw the 39-year-old boozing and partying it up at the SL East club in the Hamptons and was so drunk, he could barely stand and was eventually dragged out of the club. He decided to drive home, in spite of many of his friends not asking him to. He got into the accident nearly an hour afterward.

Friends don’t let NBA stars drive drunk.

The Knicks didn’t comment on whether or not this would affect his newly signed contract with them.
