American Idol alum Blake Lewis released his music video for Sad Song–the first single off his sophomore album, Heartbreak on Vinyl, out October 6th. What are your thoughts? The song is awesome, video is a tad quirky. Overall, me likey. His first album didn’t do so well, so I’m hoping his second effort gets some radio play. Otherwise, it’s back to ultrasound technology school for you, Blake!
Grab a Snickers, I think you’ll “need a moment.” Ellen DeGeneres has announced that she will be Paula Abdul’s permanent replacement on American Idol.
The dance-enthusiast and daytime chatterbox told her audience during a taping of her show about the news. “I’ve watched since the beginning, and I’ve always been a huge fan,” she said. “So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote.”
Now you may be asking yourself, what the f**** are her credentials? May I present this:
Now you may be asking yourself, what the f*** are her credentials? Well, to put it simply, she has none. And she’s well aware of it. She explained:
“Hopefully I’m the people’s point of view, because I’m just like you. I sit at home and I watch it…I’m not looking at it in a critical way, from the music producer’s mind. I’m looking at it as a person who’s going to buy the music, and who’s going to relate to that person.
“So I’m hopefully going to be the voice of what we’re all doing at home.”
So ummm, what are your thoughts? If she can make the show funny, I’m all for it! Bring the laughs, Ellen! She’ll join the other judges after the celebrity-laden audition rounds are dunzo.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Did somebody slip Paula Abdul the wrong pills again? The seemingly drunk voice of compassion on American Idol’s judging panel has called it quits. She took to Twitter yesterday and made the announcement.”With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to #IDOL. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all…being a part of a show that I helped from day1 become an international phenomenon.”
Fox and Idol producers have confirmed the departure, “Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show.”
Fans have taken to message boards and posted their reactions, here are some of my favorites from E! News:

Yeah! Maybe I’ll start watching it now. I did once, but I just couldn’t handle the slurring and insane behavior. What I really couldn’t handle was that someone gave her a job that she didn’t need, when she has other talents for income.

In this economy with people losing $50,00 jobs left and right and trying to keep their homes and families insured, she has a lot of nerve complaining that she doesn’t make enough money. Wah Wah Wah! I can’t survive on $8 million for 6 months work that really means sitting at a table and telling everyone they’re good, whether they suck or not. ****** please.
American Idol alum Constantine Maroulis has finally confirmed to the world what we already know: He’s the biggest douchewad to ever queef out of American Idol. After being ousted from the show, he went on to star in bit parts in soap opera gigs, and was recently nominated for a Tony Award in Broadway’s Rock of Ages.
He told the Huffington Post he thinks his appearance on American Idol paved the way for future rockers:
“I definitely opened the door for people after me, like Chris Daughtry and David Cook and all those guys,” he says. “[Season 8 runner-up] Adam [Lambert]‘s a good kid, I wish him all the best.”
He also shared how he’d do things differently if he was on Idol again:
“They had a hard time getting the support from artists and publishers to clear a lot of the material, so there were a lot of songs I wanted to do that I couldn’t do,” he says. “Stuff from U2, Aerosmith, anything Led Zeppelin, Bon Jovi. That was the stuff I was really good at. If I could have done the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ kind of thing week after week, it would have been interesting to see how it would have worked out.”
Does anybody remember Kelli Glover (above, at left) from season 1 of American Idol? She was a definite stand out who needed a bit of vocal polishing, but certainly had the potential to be a star. She’s got the looks, voice and ambition. I was floored to see her audition for America’s Got Talent last week (though I caught it online today)! Time has been kind to her: She has made a 180 transition, and has got the vocal chops to compete with any other pop tart artist out there. She reminds me of a Leona Lewis (above, at right) of sorts. They have a similar sound…racially ambiguous looks…and the same Simon Cowell connection (Leona Lewis being an X-Factor alum and Kelli an American Idol semi-finalist). Is Kelli poised for the same stardom?

Did anybody catch the outro song? It’s Leona Lewis’ “I will be.” Am I on to something or what!?
And in the jump, check out her American Idol audition.
