Police were called to the home of Mulberry, Fla. mayor Julian Mullis (above, left) and his alleged live-in drag queen roommate, Eugene Ornelas, on Monday after police say a domestic quarrel turned violent, The Ledger reports.

Eugene Ornelas, 29, was arrested on domestic violence charges for allegedly throwing a beer bottle at Mullis and attempting to hit him, according to reports.

Police say the incident started when Ornelas was at a Tampa club earlier, and returned with another man to Mayor Mullis’ home at 5 a.m. (Possibly a late-night sewing circle?). Mullis shares the home with his two children, ages 7 and 9.

Awakened, Mullis began arguing with Ornelas about bringing home another man while his children were asleep.

That’s when Ornelas, who reportedly “smelled of alcohol and appeared to be drunk,” attempted to attack Mullis. Interestingly, the police report notes that “Ornelas had tried to use the phone during the confrontation but picked up a spoon instead of a telephone.” You know you’ve had a little too much to drink when you start dialing your spoon.

In the wake of the reported incident, local–and national–press have picked up the bizarre story, and Mayor Mullis has threatened to resign because he says he feels humiliated.

A Ledger reporter claims Mullis lashed out during an inquiry, “This will be the laughingstock of my family, and we’ve been here for generations,” Mullis said.
“I can take it. But my parents, and my children …”

In reports, Mullis refers to Ornelas as only a roommate, though Ornelas has described his relationship with Mullis as something that could be considered a blissful domestic partnership.

Ornelas’ Twitter account parallels his life as a male Donna Reed: “watching the kids, cleaning the kitchen” as he “waits for Julian to return home from work.” He also appealed to his friends and followers to watch his audition tape and vote for him on the casting page for Rupaul’s Drag Race, where you can see him in drag as his character Chyna. He has also performed in drag at local nightclubs.
