A German court handed a man a two-year suspended sentence for starting a violent brawl of unlikely weapons–including arming himself with a live swan to club another man.

According to reports, the assailant and a friend had been drinking by a river in Munich, when they heard a tourist from eastern Germany nearby and decided to harass him.

They hurled abuse at him, shouting: “Piss off you eastern pig, they should rebuild the Wall right up to the sky because of you.” Spiegel International News reports

That’s when one of the men grabbed a swan by the neck from the water, then clubbed the man with it. Incredibly, when they released the bird it flew off unharmed.

Undaunted, the men then hurled bottles and a barbecue pit filled with red-hot coals at the victim who escaped with minor injuries.

A suspended sentence in Germany is a conditional withholding of a penalty, meaning that if the defendant is convicted of another offense during the period when the passing of sentence had been suspended, then the offender may be sentenced for the original offense.
