A racy text message provoked a tribal war in Papua New Guinea–leaving two people dead, several houses burned down and two clans at heightened tension.

According to reports, a man sent a pornographic text message image to a woman in another clan on Saturday, Jan. 23. The image offended the woman, and she told her brother who gathered clansmen armed with home-made guns, bush knives and bows and arrows to attack the other tribe.

In the ensuing war, one man was killed and another was pulled from a bus and killed with an axe.

By Wednesday, Jan. 27, the feud dissipated and authorities were helping to negotiate a peaceful resolution.
