U.S. Dollar Gets Redesigned

Art

money

Let’s face it–the US dollar is kind of dull, right? And the composition is horizontal. When was the last time you counted your money in a horizontal orientation? Never. Artist Dean Potter’s submitted an eye-friendly, more practical vision of what the US dollar should look like for the Dollar ReDe$ign Project. What do you think? Are we in need of a rebranding?

Miniature skyline made of stacks of staples

12_high-rise-2006

Artist Peter Root’s Low-Rise is a replica of a cityscape using stacked staples to resemble a skyline.

Like a city, the staples are subject to the elements, on a micro scale. The slightest breath or vibration and the domino effect kicks in.

Fallen Princesses

Art

snowwhite

Check out this photo series that puts fairy tale characters in modern day scenarios.

As a young girl, growing up abroad, I was not exposed to Fairy tales. These new discoveries lead to my fascination with the origins of Fairy tales. I explored the original brothers Grimm’s stories and found that they have very dark and sometimes gruesome aspects, many of which were changed by Disney. I began to imagine Disney’s perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me, such as illness, addiction and self-image issues.

Separated at birth: Halle Berry, Hilary Swank

halle_berry_waxfigure

Halle Berry must have pissed somebody off. Specifically, a wax-figure artisan because her latest life-like image, which was unveiled at the opening of Madame Tussausds in Hollywood on Thursday, looked more like another Oscar winner–Hilary Swank. There’s nothing wrong with looking like Swank, if you’re Matt Damon or something, but come on now! This is just wrong. You can lay out a blanket, chairs and a picnic basket on that forehead.

The new $55 million museum sits next to Grauman’s Theatre along the Walk of Fame. Check out the full length shot in the jump.

Your logo makes me barf

This has to be my favorite new site. Your Logo Makes Me Barf is a Web site dedicated to the ridicule and embarrassment of clip art crazy, MS Paint loving designers who’ve crafted some barf-worthy logos. You can usually find these logos in ads that run the Yellowpages. And sometimes the cheapo, tiny ads in newspapers or uber shitty Web site for a home repair businesses. Take a look at the top 10 in the jump!

Julia Roberts thoroughly disgusted by her own face

Julia Roberts was as horrified by her face as much as the rest of us are when a fan handed over a painting of the “(un)pretty woman”at the London premiere of “Duplicity.” The caper, also starring Clive Owen, opens in the U.S. March 20. Actually, I think the painting looks exactly like her—exactly. And it’s not that bad.

Bad paintings of Barack Obama

Sounds like the Museum of Bad Art can host a new exhibit. Check out Bad Paintings of Barack Obama for funny, really hideous works of art inspired by our president. I particularly enjoy Barack Obama with tacos and Mexicans. The Web site is getting flooded with hits, so be patient. I’ve compiled a few of my favorites in the jump!
