Sometimes you have dumb criminals and sometimes, you have awesome people who defend themselves.

Like LL Cool J before him, actor Taye Diggs found himself in an odd predicament when a young man attempted to break into his Los Angeles home — while the actor was actually present.

Diggs had been celebrating at the SAG Awards only hours before when the intrusion happened. The man attempted to get away, but the RENT star chased him down and held him until cops arrived.

The intruder, named Hassan Omar Juma, was officially charged yesterday with felony burglary, which could possibly give him six years in jail.

Word to the wise: if you can’t tell if someone is home when you’re trying to rob a house, then you’re probably in the wrong profession.
