Elmo’s World has officially blown up.

Following yet another young man coming out of the woodwork alleging that he, too had sex with Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash while underage, the Sesame Street employee has officially been fired resigned from the children’s television show.

The second man, Cecil Singleton filed a lawsuit against Clash in an NYC court yesterday, claiming that he and Kevin hooked up back when he was 15 (he’s in his 30′s now) and when Clash was 32.

Among the allegations, Singleton claims, “[Clash] trolled gay telephone chat line rooms to meet and have sex with underage boys.”In the lawsuit, filed in federal court in NYC, Singleton claims Clash “groomed [the accuser] to gain his trust by, among other things, taking him to nice dinners and giving him money.”
More after the jump.
With Singleton being the nail in a very tawdry coffin, Clash decided it was all too much to take and ended his career with the PBS show this morning.
In a statement, Sesame Workshop reveals that “the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job”, adding that “this is a sad day for Sesame Street“.
They expressed last week when the first allegation from accuser, Sheldon Stephens hit that Elmo will live on, saying that the little monster “is bigger than any one person”.
Singleton is suing Clash for $5 million, while Stephens is hoping to find a lawyer to repeal the original settlement and push forth on the claims that he did indeed have a sexual encounter with Clash before he was of age.
It’s going to be a while before there is another “sunny day” on the set.
