Today’s “Sesame Street” was brought to you by the letters L, I and bonus letter E.
The man who claimed that Elmo puppeteer, Kevin Clash, had sexy times with him while he was underage suddenly recanted his claims yesterday, saying that the relationship between them did in fact transpire when he was of age.
According to sources, the man was meeting with Clash’s attorneys to work out a settlement when he decided to take back his story, ending the only two-day drama for the Sesame Street worker, who left the show (with the backing of the company, Sesame Workshop) to clear his name.
“[The accuser] wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship” said his lawyer in a statement. [The accuser] will have no further comment.”
The 52-year-old Clash, who was involuntarily “outed” by the claims (although he says he never had a problem admitting his sexuality) released a statement as well saying that he would no longer speak of the incident and is “relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest.”
No word on when he’ll return to the show, but I’m sure that Elmo will be back in familiar territory soon.
