We all knew Shia LeBeouf had no interest in returning to the Transformers movie franchise when he denounced all of Hollywood this year.
And of course, we knew that the blockbuster series would still return without him (it’s made $2 billion in it’s combined box office totals) — but we didn’t know who he’d be replaced with. And now, we do!
Director Michael Bay officially announced yesterday that Mark Wahlberg would take over the lead role, although he will not be playing Shia’s character.
“Mark is awesome”, Bay said during an interview. “We had a blast working on Pain and Gain (an upcoming 2013 film) and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy,” said Bay.
Oddly enough, stories of Wahlberg joining the franchise were shot down by Bay just last week. But constant internet rumors and suggestions made him rethink the decision.
“Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer – so I’m here to say thanks internet chatter.”
The fourth installment hasn’t been officially named yet, but is set for release on June 27, 2014.
