Not everyone moves on so quickly.

Following his 19-month stint in jail for illegal dog fighting, football star Michael Vick was banned from owning dogs for 3 years after his release. Well, that ban is almost over (it’s been five years since his conviction) and Michael was on Piers Morgan’s CNN show last night saying he would like to get a dog for his children, saying it would be “therapeutic” to them.

Guess who doesn’t agree he should have one? The ASPCA.

Following his appearance, the organization (which stands for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) had some harsh words on Michael’s future plans with four-legged creatures.

“Vick’s journey toward rehabilitation and redemption has not reflected any direct concern for the wellbeing of animals, and we’ve never heard him express a shred of empathy toward the dogs he brutalized and killed.”

More after the jump.

The rep from the ASPCA continued, saying that rather than face what he did, “instead chosen to focus on the consequences of getting caught.”

“Vick’s actions have been simply self-serving and not remotely expressing remorse. Because of this, the ASPCA has serious concerns about Vick’s ability to be a responsible pet guardian.”

The moral of the story: look into fish. Preferably, not piranhas.
