Following last week’s shake-up that officially took J. Lo and Steven Tyler away from their judging chairs on “American Idol”, there have been a few names the creators and producers have been throwing around, but this is the first time someone has tossed their own name into the ring.

Legendary Aretha Franklin has expressed her interest in joining the gang over at “Idol”, which only has Randy Jackson (for now) and host Ryan Seacrest.

“Yes, I am interested as a judge,” she said in an e-mail sent out last week. There hasn’t been word on whether Fox or Freemantle Media are interested in having her, but c’mon! Show the Queen some respect!

With one timeless singer wanting to be on board, the husband of another legend wants to make sure that his wife gets her just desserts with some fat pockets.

Nick Cannon, the husband of Mariah Carey, who is rumored to be joining and is also host of “Idol” competitor, “America’s Got Talent”, ran into a TMZ camera person and told them that Mimi must get some high numbers if she joins the panel.

“I don’t know if they can afford Mariah Carey. That’s a lot of money. If they gave J. Lo $20 million, they might have to double that!”

I think they would actually want to save money… and although I love me some Mariah, she’s not bringing on the hits as she used to. I think humbleness is the way to go… but when is the husband of a diva ever humble?
