As the year comes to an end, I find myself wondering if I’ve lived up to my resolutions, which were, namely, to capitalize on other’s misfortunes, and to make myself feel better about being single. So I killed two birds with one stone and compiled a list of the most memorable celebrity divorces of 2011.

See the good, the bad, and the ugly after the jump!

8. Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger

This split was one of the most shocking of the year, although I suppose that if my husband chose a dumpy, overweight housekeeper over me, I’d probably leave him, too.

7. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

Like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lopez apparently tired of being married to a skeleton. The marriage produced two children (twins), meaning that it’s only a matter of time until the plot of The Parent Trap finally works in real life.

6. Kelsey Grammer and wife Camille

Obviously, Grammer initiated the split because Camille is SUCH A FUCKING LIAR.

5. Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson

Wentz and Simpson split this year, proving that just because you’re really, really desperate doesn’t mean you can stay happily married to a gay guy. Unfortunately, the couple just wasn’t able stay together for son Bronx Mowgli. Even more unfortunately, their son’s name is Bronx Mowgli.

4. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

What do you get when cross Kim Kardashian, Shrek look-a-like contest-winner Kris Humphries, an overbearing “momager,” and a dash of Ryan Seacrest? If you guessed “a failed marriage” then you’re only half right. You also get lots and lots of money.

3. Sinead O’Connor and Barry Herridge (who is not famous enough to be pictured)

How does Sinead O’Connor stay relevant these days? By getting divorced after a marriage that was (shockingly) even shorter than Kim Kardashian’s. (Britney’s 55 hours still beats your 16 days, Sinead. Let us not forget that.)

2. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher

I’m still holding out hope that this entire split is just the most elaborate episode of Punk’d ever filmed.

1. Katy Perry and Russell Brand

Don’t sweat it, Russell – you’re not the first person she’s tricked into thinking she’s talented and likable; just a few years ago, she actually convinced someone at Capitol Music Group to give her a record deal. (Looks like Demi Moore wasn’t the only one getting Punk’d this year.)
