Rapper Fat Joe sat with DJ Vlad recently for a very candid interview in which he expressed his (surprisingly progressive) views on homosexuality within the rap world. According to Joe, hip-hop is “the greatest gay market in the world,” and the industry is run by an exclusive “Gay Mafia.”

I don’t claim to know more about the hip-hop world than Fat Joe, but come on, a gay mafia? It’s not that I don’t believe that there may be a group of powerful gay men in the hip-hop industry; my problem is that, if there were a gay mafia, why am I not a part of it? Is it my hair? Or maybe my shoes? I can change, Gay Mafia, I can change!

Joe then asked why a man wouldn’t “come out and say, ‘Yo, I’m gay’” in this day and age. “It’s 2011 going on 2012,” he continued. “I think if you’re gay, rep your set… If you gay, you gay.” And, most importantly, if you in the gay mafia, hook me up!
