The father of “Slumdog Millionaire” child star Rubina Ali, who played Latika in the Oscar winning film, offered to sell the child for adoption for nearly $400,000, according to reports.

In an investigation conducted by “News of the World,” reporters allege the father originally intended to sell the child to a Middle Eastern couple, when the deal fell through, the paper contacted Rubina’s uncle under the pretense of adoption.

“Yes, we are interested in securing our girl’s future… Obviously if you wanted to adopt we could discuss this, but her parents would also expect some proper compensation in return,” the uncle told under cover reporters.

The family countered by saying they were confused, and believed they were discussing a “well paying” role for the child, and insist that despite the film’s global success, the family still lives in squalor.
